TRPM8 polymorphisms associated with increased risk of IBS-C and IBS-M

A European research project coordinated jointly by the Ikerbasque Research Professor Mauro D'Amato, head of the Research Group on Gastrointestinal Genetics of the Biodonostia Health Research Institute, has analyzed the influence of certain genes on people's intestinal habits, an element that could be an indicator of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

The main findings have been published in the prestigious journal GUT, the second most important in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Results of this study may contribute to identifying subsets of patients with IBS for improved therapeutic precision, and provide novel opportunities for mechanistic investigation of IBS symptom generation.
