CIC marGUNE

CIC marGUNE

The objectives of the CRC marGUNE can be identified as follows:

  • To establish itself as a national and international point of scientific-technological reference in high performance manufacturing.
  • To provide a high level of training to researchers in order to shorten the learning cycles by capturing knowledge in all technologies considered at marGUNE.
  • To transfer the acquired knowledge to the industrial fabric, thereby assisting the industrial framework to recover from its progressive loss of competitiveness, with a strategy of technological differentiation. In this regard, the activity of the CRC marGUNE will be aligned with business strategies, thereby favouring the integration of the science-technology-industry value chain. Moreover, it collaborates in the repositioning of firms as a result of understanding their future plans, and it assists them by contributing knowledge and technology in order to develop new products and solutions that allow them to be more successful.
  • To set itself up as a tool that serves not only to establish the scientific bases that generate a new industrial fabric, but also to assist in evolving and transforming the businesses of the companies that comprise the current fabric of suppliers of manufacturing solutions.

The projects of the CRC marGUNE are framed within short- to medium-term scientific-technological scopes, which are keys to maintaining the industrial mass of the environment. It is therefore necessary to support the industrial R&D capacity that the sector itself is generating with a research infrastructure of a high scientific-technological level and of a more basic nature that feeds and facilitates this radical innovation, thereby driving change from a strategy of reactive innovation (follower) to a proactive one.

Within the actions encompassed by the research frameworks, the projects in progress are the following:

  • Effect of the Manufacturing Process on generating Residual Stress and structural modifications of the material. Relaxation Technologies.
  • Assurance of Geometric and Surface Quality when Machining Precision Parts.
  • New Concepts for Manufacturing High-Performance, Light-Weight components for car bodies, structures and suspensions of new generation automobiles.
  • Integration of the Value Chain of Metal Cutting Processes.
  • Ultrasound assisted machining. Applications.
  • Study of material deposition Processes based on mixed technologies

CIC microGUNE

CIC microGUNE

CIC microGUNE is a Cooperative Research Centre created with the aim of becoming a new model of scientific/technological alliance for carrying out excellent research, integrating the capacities of different agents in the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network in the strategic field of microtechnologies, to contribute to raising the competitiveness level of the Basque Country’s business sector while collaborating to achieve diversification towards emerging sectors through knowledge and technology transfer and generation.

CIC microGUNE performs its research using the so-called “top down approach”, i.e. the small-scale reproduction of what has up to now been produced in actual size, developing regular structures of increasingly smaller sizes (miniaturisation) for this purpose ranging from micron scale to nanometric scale.

CIC microGUNE’s main general objectives are as follows:

  • To strengthen the cooperation between the different agents in micro/nanotechnologies, optimising the scientific and technological capacity of the Basque Country.
  • To develop international-scale research focusing on the strategic area of micro/ nanotechnologies.
Integration within the European Research Area (ERA).
  • To promote technology transfer and convergence with other areas (biotechnology, ICTs, nanosciences) for the development of emerging industrial sectors on the basis of the convergence of these fields.

The activity of the Centre is focused on the following research areas:

  • Electrochemical and immunomagnetic detection of biological species.
  • Micro-and nano-structuring of metals and polymers.
  • Nanostructured materials for gas detection.
  • Fluid handling polymers components.
  • Organic Micro-optoelectronic.
  • Integration of micro/nanosystems.

CIC tourGUNE

CIC tourGUNE

The Association for Cooperative Research in Tourism (CICtourGUNE), is a co-operation platform created with the objective to boost both new research skills and to gather those existing scientific capacities that could potentially be applied in the tourist sector.

The CICtourGUNE has been conceived within the Basque Research, Development and Innovation strategy for tourism (i-tourgune) is set up within the Basque Government's Tourism Competitivity plan for 2006-2009, which derives in the Business Competitivity and Social Innovation Plan for 2006-2009, designed to undertake the second greatest economical transformation of the Basque Country.

The international economy forefront‘s requirements and the complete insertion of the knowledge-based society demand the development and consolidation of new knowledge-intensive sectors. Within this economic framework, where knowledge and innovation are the key elements, it is necessary to work on a cutting-edge tourism model. Thus, the CICtourGUNE aim is to facilitate the adjustment of the tourism industry towards an intensive knowledge-based social and economic sector. Hence, the present cooperation platform is committed to work on intensive strategic research activities as well as the convergence of both traditional scientific and technological areas.

This transformation has to necessarily increase the scientific-technological activity in the traditional tourism sector in such a way that it allows a qualitative increase in the added value generated by tourism increasing the degree of competitiveness of the entire sector. CICtourGUNE responds to a clear strategy to create new sub-sectors or market places for companies with strong roots in the Basque socio-economic reality and with a clear potential to design the future economic network in tourism.

The CICtourGUNE will establish co-operation alliances among the most representative associates in different areas, such as science, technology, research and tourism to facilitate the fulfillment of such objectives.

The CICtourGUNE will endorse dissemination and knowledge transfer activities within the agents of the Basque Innovation System, the tourist sector and the Society in general.

The CICtourGUNE has been conceived to achieve a fore-front position within the key scientific-technologic fields, based upon dynamic management and working models. Technology Centers, Universities, Tourism and Technology Companies and Public and Private Tourism initiatives will converge within the CICtourGUNE.

The CICtourGUNE shall have an international dimension in order to reinforce the co-ordination of the tourist innovation system and its integration within the European Research Area (ERA).

At present, 41 researchers distributed along the Basque research and technology network are collaborating in the following innovation and research truck:

  1. Tourism Sciences.
  2. Science and Technology to support the sustainable tourism production.
  3. Science, innovation and technology for the sector management.
  4. Added value services for tourists.
  5. New strategies in the eTourism field.

Concurrently, the CICtourGUNE platform is wholly engaged in the definition of its strategic plan and future knowledge paths.
