The CIC bioGUNE, committed to high quality research, works in the main areas of biotechnology applied to health: functional genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, stem cells and cellular biology, and bioinformatics. The strategic goal is to identify, prevent and to cure diseases.

A commitment to be at the international cutting edge of science and technology, based on state-of-the-art equipment and tools, and using technological platforms that will help to improve quality of life.

An important role of the institute is to facilitate communication with the international community. The CIC bioGUNE is committed to an international profile and to the participation in multi-centre projects.

The CIC bioGUNE aims at contributing to the social and economic development by accelerating the process that leads to innovation, trying to reduce the time between knowledge generation and its exploitation, creating products or services.

Setting up the CIC bioGUNE is a decisive step in scientific research in the Basque Country, as it brings together the latest research in biosciences with an outstanding team of international scientists. The CIC bioGUNE encourages co-operation between technological and university centers, hospitals and companies, thus multiplying the possibilities of reaching important scientific achievements and effectively transmitting them to society.
