The CIC nanoGUNE Consolider is a newly established Center created with the mission of addressing basic and applied world-class research in nanoscience and nanotechnology, fostering high-standard training and education of researchers in this field, and promoting the cooperation among the different agents in the Basque Science, Technology, and Innovation Network (Universities and Technological Centers) and between these agents and the industrial sector.
The Center focuses its research activities on the following three major strategic areas:
- Advanced nano-scale fabrication and characterization methods.
- Electronic, Optical and Magnetic Properties of nano-structures and devices.
- Nano-Bio-Hybrid Research and Technologies.
The research programme of nanoGUNE is implemented through 5 Research Groups, and a TEM Laboratory, as follows:
- Nanomagnetism group: Fabrication and characterization of new nanolayered materials and other magnetic nanostrutures
- Nanooptics group: Near-field optics, including the development of new optical microscopes that go beyond the diffraction limit and the characterization of photonic nanostructures such us nanoantennas.
- Self-Assembly group: Exploration of new strategies to assemble and functionalize nanostructures, based on proteins and peptides.
- Nanobiotechnology group: Nano-bio energy conversion and vectorization in the area of biofunctional nanostructures and nanobiotechnology.
- Nanodevices group: Fabrication of nanodevices and investigation of the electronic properties of systems of reduced dimensions.
- TEM Laboratory: A world-class Electron Microscopy facility that includes TEM/STEM, Dual Beam FIB, and ESEM.
