Evaluation

One of the most important processes for achieving our Mission consists in ensuring a truly independent, excellent and professional evaluation for the applications. Ikerbasque carries out an intensive search for the best researchers and scientific professional arround the world to be part of the evaluation panels. The evaluators can not be members of the local scientific community, since our aim is to ensure the independence of the evaluations.

120 independent external evaluators from 24 countries participate in the evaluation process of Ikerbasque calls in 2012, under the coordination of the following members of Ikerbasque Scientific Advisory Committee:

  • Prof. Salvador Barberà, Professor of Economics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona; Rey Jaime I award in Economics 2008.
  • Prof. Domingo Docampo, Professor of Telecommunications and ex-Chancellor of the University of Vigo.
  • Prof. Javier López Facal, Research Professor of Scientific Policy and research management and Greek Lexicography at CSIC; ex-VicePresident of CSIC.
  • Prof. Ginés Morata, Research Professor at the Spanish Council for Research CSIC; Principe de Asturias Award in Scientific Research 2007; Rey Jaime I Research Award 1996.
  • Prof. Luis Oro, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry of the University of Zaragoza; Spanish National Reseach Award in Chemistry 2007, Rey Jaime I Research Award 1999.
  • Prof. Joan Rodés, Professor of Medicine at the University of Barcelona; Spanish National Research Award in Medicine 2006.
  • Prof. Felix Yndurain, Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
  
EVALUATION OF THE 2012 RESEARCH PROFESSOR CALL

This call offers permanent reserch positions in the Basque Country. From over 900 registered applicants in this call:

- 249 researchers were eligible in the autumn evaluation. The Scientific Advisory Committe has short listed 12 applications (5%).

- 180 researchers were eligible in the spring evaluation. The Scientific Advisory Committe has short listed 24 applications (13%). 

 

The evaluation panels and the Scientific Advisory Committee have reviewed the applications based on:

  • Scientific merit and research track
  • Interest of the Research Statement provided in the application
  • Relevance of research topic and latest publications
  • Concordance with Basque research capabilities

These short-listed candidates will go into the following phase for interview with the host research institution. In order to preserve the confidentiality of the applicants during this phase, only the finally selected researchers are regularly added to the Researcher Profiles  section of this website.

EVALUATION OF THE 2012 RESEARCH FELLOWS CALL

This call offers 5 year research positions that can lead to a permanent Professorship. From over 550 registered applicants, 282 researchers were eligible in the 2012 Research Fellows call and their applications were screened by our evaluation panels. Based on these evaluations, the Scientific Advisory Committee has selected 25 applications (9%) with the following criteria:

  • Scientific merit and research track of the Visiting Fellow
  • Interest of the research project provided in the application
  • Research track of the Basque research group.
