Ikerbasque is a non-for-profit Foundation created by the Basque Government, the Local Government of the Basque Country, Spain. The target of Ikerbasque is to foster the development of top research in the Basque Country by attracting senior scientists to the research centres in our area.
In its 2008 science.eu.com call, Ikerbasque offers 30 tenure contracts for senior researchers willing to move to the Basque Country to extend research on their areas. Additional start-up funds are available to set up research lines for joining researchers. Ikerbasque contracts and pays the researchers. Research is carried out in the appropriate research centre of the Basque Country in accordance with candidate’s knowledge area.

This call will be opened from January to October 2008. There will be 2 evaluations, one for all the applications received before March the 31st, and another for the ones received until September the 30th.
Ikerbasque’s offer is centred on all research areas: Experimental sciences, Engineering and Technology, Life & Medical sciences, Social sciences and Humanities.

Ikerbasque offers 30 tenure contracts per year. This means a permanent full time position.
Ikerbasque has established a salary range, in line which those existing in the Basque science system. The final amount is negotiable with each researcher, taking into account the excellence of their research career
Your application will be evaluated by an External Committee composed of prestigious researchers from your research area

Ikerbasque informally assists spouses in finding a position in the Basque Country. However, we regret that we cannot guarantee a specific job for the partner
The starting date will be established with each researcher taking into account their personal and current work situations
Ikerbasque provides start-up funds for your research for the first years so you can establish your group and research properly. We will jointly discuss the amount of start-up funds required for your research project.
We encourage Ikerbasque researchers to share their knowledge to PhD students to help us create a solid research future for our region. Ikerbasque researchers have a research only contract with the Foundation, but we encourage you to sign additionally paid contracts with the University in case you want to teach doctorate levels.
Ikerbasque’s offer is focused on researchers who have research experience in world-class centres outside The Basque Science System. We believe that English is the language of Science and therefore the language understood by everyone interested in our offer.
Spanish legislation does allow you to have different contracts. You only need permission from employers.
