2007 National Research Award (from the Mexican Academy of Science) in exact sciences, 2009 Medal to the Scientific Merit from Mexico City’s congress, the Ciudad Capital: Heberto Castillo 2011 Award, IEEE Fellow, 2012 Scopus Award (Mexico’s Edition), 2012 National Medal of Science in Physics, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, 2013 IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu Award, 2016 The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Award, 2019 Luis Elizondo Award, 2021 IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Evolutionary Computation Pioneer Award.

Previous research experience at the Plymouth Engineering Design Centre (UK) and at the Laboratorio Nacional de Informática Avanzada (Mexico).
