Ikerbasque dialogues: Is artificial intelligence so smart?

Ikerbasque, the Basque Foundation for Science, organized a webinar in which a reflection on the threats and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence was carried out.

The event was moderated by the Scientific Director of Ikerbasque Fernando Cossío, and had the participation of:

  • Amparo Alonso Betanzos (Vigo, 1961) is Professor in the area of ​​Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Universidad da Coruña (UDC). His research focuses on the development of Scalable Machine Learning models, and Reliable and Explainable Artificial Intelligence, among others. President of the Spanish Association of Artificial Intelligence between 2013-2021. He is a member of the “Reserve List” of the High-Level Group of European Experts in Artificial Intelligence: High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI HLG), since 2018, and from the same date, a member of the European AI Alliance. He is also a member of CAIA, the Government Advisory Commission on Artificial Intelligence, since 2020.
  • Daniel Innerarity (Bilbao, 1959) is professor of political and social philosophy, Ikerbasque researcher at the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU) and director of the Institute for Democratic Governance. He is a part-time professor at the European University Institute in Florence and has been a visiting professor and researcher at various European and American universities. The French magazine Le Nouvel Observateur included him in 2005 in a list of the 25 great thinkers of the world. In 2008 Eusko Ikaskuntza-Caja Laboral awarded him the Humanities, Arts, Culture and Social Sciences Prize and in 2013 he received the Principe de Viana Prize for Culture.
