POSITION OVERVIEW
Bioaraba HRI together with Ikerbasque (Basque Foundation for Science - http://www. Ikerbasque.net ) are seeking an experienced and highly motivated senior researcher to lead the Sleep Disorders Research Group and to develop a new research line in Translational Chronobiology, focused on circadian rhythms and sleep-related health and disease.
This research line will be embedded within the existing Sleep Disorders Research Group, closely linked to the Sleep Disorders Unit at the Araba University Hospital, which has a strong clinical integration and high translational potential in areas such as neurodegenerative disease, respiratory disorders, adolescent and elderly sleep health and shift work. The successful candidate is expected to lead this line by integrating clinical research with technological innovation and by fostering collaborations with national and international partners.
We offer a permanent position based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, with full institutional support to establish a stable and impactful research program.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate interdisciplinary research projects with clinicians, patients and collaborating institutions within the Sleep Disorders Research Group at Bioaraba HRI.
- Establish and develop a new line of research in translational chronobiology.
- Conduct high-impact, competitive research integrating laboratory and clinical approaches.
- Attract external funding from national and international agencies.
- Supervise research staff and students.
- Develop strategic partnerships and collaborations both, at national and international level.
- Lead various research activities, such as writing research proposals, project execution/reporting/management, writing high quality research papers and presenting research results at scientific conferences.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, medicine, biology, neuroscience, pharmacy or related fields (completed before January 2014).
- Proven expertise in chronobiology, sleep research, and circadian systems in both basic and translational research.
- Experience leading competitive research projects with a translational focus.
- Strong publication record in international peer-reviewed journals.
- Proven experience in applying for external (international) research funding.
- Familiarity with clinical environments and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Extensive international research network in the fields of sleep and circadian biology.
- Experience and comfort of working with multidisciplinary teams of clinicians and patients.
- Capacity to lead research programs with potential for clinical and technological innovation.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations, including individuals with neurodegenerative diseases, insomnia and respiratory disorders, with particular focus on clinical and socially vulnerable populations.
- Established international research network and demonstrated ability to foster strategic collaborations.
*Languages*: A working knowledge of Spanish or Basque (CEFR level B2) is required to ensure smooth interaction with both patients and healthcare professionals. Additionally, a high level of English proficiency (CEFR level C1) is also required.
CONDITIONS:
- Permanent full-time position, based at Bioaraba HRI in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
- The research will be conducted within the Sleep Disorders Research Group and in collaboration with the Sleep Disorders Unit at Araba University Hospital.
- Applications will be considered for a permanent Ikerbasque Professor or Ikerbasque Associate Professor position, based on the candidate´s research record and leadership experience.
- Preferred starting date: during 2025 (negotiable).
