Aitor Hierro, Ikerbasque Research Professor at CIC bioGUNE, has been awarded a prestigious Leonardo grant on biomedicine (funded by BBVA Foundation) to develop a project wth the aim of characterizing a possible therapeutic target still unexplored against alzheimer's disease.

Currently, the drugs available for this neurodegenerative disease, which is considered a 21st century epidemic and a major socio-sanitary problem, do not delay its development. Dr. Hierro will describe a molecular mechanism that is at the origin of the formation of the amyloid peptide, characteristic of alzheimer's, in order to verify if its neutralization could be used in the treatment.
