To mark Science Week, and just days after its first anniversary, the facilities housing IBM’s System II quantum computer will open their doors to the public.
The Ikerbasque building is home to the headquarters of BasQ –Basque Quantum, a strategy led by the Basque Government with the involvement of the three Provincial Councils. Its facilities house the IBM System II computer, IBM’s most powerful quantum computer worldwide, alongside the one installed at Riken, Japan.
The open days will offer the public an opportunity to learn about its main features and gain a more accessible understanding of a complex technology.
Guided tour and Quantum Visions exhibition
During the tour of the building, visitors will receive general information about the computer’s main features, infrastructure, use and potential applications. The tour will include brief historical accounts of the development of quantum science, as well as a view of the computer’s core from above.
To help visitors better understand its main features, Tabakalera and Ikerbasque have agreed to display the educational installation “Quantum Visions” along the tour route. Launched by the International Centre for Contemporary Culture in 2025, this project allows visitors to explore key concepts in quantum physics through educational, audiovisual and narrative content.
Anyone interested in attending the open days can submit a request via https://www.basquequantum.eus/es/visita-guiada-al-ordenador-cuantico. Places will be limited.
